Iran Football Team Secures Mexican Visas Ahead of 2026 World Cup
According to reports, Iranian Ambassador to Türkiye Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh said the visas were granted after coordination with the Mexican Embassy in Ankara.
“The visas for Iran’s national team players were issued within 48 hours without the players having to appear in person and without fingerprinting requirements at the Mexican Embassy,” said Habibollahzadeh.
While progress has been made regarding travel arrangements for Mexico, Iran Football Federation President Mehdi Taj indicated that obtaining entry visas for the United States remains the team's primary outstanding challenge before the tournament.
“The main obstacle is the US visa. We do not know what stage the process is currently at. There are no other obstacles, and both we and FIFA are following up on the matter,” Taj told Iran state television.
He added that Mexican authorities agreed to process the team's visas without requiring fingerprinting procedures. Taj also noted that only two members of the Iranian delegation had yet to receive their visas, but said those documents were expected to be issued within hours.
With the Mexican visa issue largely resolved, officials are now focusing their efforts on completing the remaining travel requirements ahead of the World Cup.
